On Saturday, January 28 at 12:00 pm, the Basye/Orkney Springs Library will host a wonderful children's program about our local heroes:  The Orkney Springs Fire and Rescue Workers.  Come enjoy stories about firefighters, create a craft, enjoy snacks, and maybe win a prize!

Registration for "Snuggle with a Book," the official Winter Reading Program for Virginia, begins February 1.  Visit the following locations to sign-up infants through first-graders for the program:  Basye/Orkney Springs, County Library, Mt. Jackson, New Market, and Strasburg.  You'll receive a reading log with stickers for tracking books read to or by your child, a bookmark, and a certificate of participation.  The program runs through March 2, so let's get reading!

Try before you buy!  We're holding a Technology Open House at the Mt. Jackson Community Library on Thursday, February 2 from 5-7 pm.  Staff will be on-hand to introduce you to a variety of eReaders and tablet computers, such as Nooks, Kindles, and iPads.  Learn how these devices work, practice using them, and find out how you can download free eBooks and audiobooks from the library.  This event is free of charge, and no registration is required.

Beginning February 2, AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers will be at the Stone House (next door to the County Library) every Thursday through April 12, weather permitting.  This free program focuses on helping low- and moderate-income people over age 60 but will serve others as well.  For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact the County Library at 540-984-8200.  Click the link below to access helpful tax information.
